Gelfoam helps form a bulky artificial clot in vascular areas, as mentioned previously. It is usually wetted with thrombin or isotonic saline to allow pliability (saline) or greater clot formation (thrombin). It can be left in the surgical site and will be absorbed in 4 to 6 weeks.
Hydrogels are often used as localized drug depots because they are hydrophilic, biocompatible, and their drug release rates can be controlled[48–50] and triggered intelligently by interactions with biomolecular stimuli.
Used to support autolytic debridement in dry wounds
DuoDERM® Hydroactive Gel is a clear, preservative-free, viscous hydrogel. Indicated for the management of partial- and full-thickness wounds, ideally as a filler for dry cavity wounds to provide a moist healing environment. • Allows non-traumatic removal of secondary dressing without damaging new tissue
The Prolene (Polypropylene) Hernia System is a sterile, pre-shaped, three dimensional device constructed of an onlay patch connected by a mesh cylinder to a circular underlay patch. The material is undyed Prolene (Polypropylene) Mesh constructed of knitted nonabsorbable polypropylene filaments.
